About Kristin Turcsanyi

I have been making Art since as long as I can remember. It was an early interest as a child, always encouraged by my family. I  was a studio art major at Mercyhurst College, concentrating in painting and drawing. In college I was a research assistant for Professor Daniel Burke. Working closely with my mentor, I assisted him in preparing, painting, and documenting his artwork, and aided in displaying and exhibiting the artwork of my peers. I was encouraged to read and discuss theory and art history, and had the opportunity to spend four years developing ideas and skills for my own work.
I graduated from Mercyhurst College in 2006 and since then have been working towards my goal of being a professional painter/artist. I am currently a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Society of Artists Guild, and I look forward to fully participating in Pittsburgh's vibrant Art scene in the not too distant future.

My paintings are created using my own photographs which I edit, enlarge, and transfer onto wood or canvas panels. Often times I am pulling together many photographs taken from different angles to create one still life. I choose to paint in acrylics because of their quick drying time and their functionality with a hard edge painting style. My subject matter comes from numerous sources. Old furniture, musical instruments, animal figurines, piles of paper and everyday clutter. My paintings offer me a creative outlet to record my surroundings, as well as a way for me to remember past experiences. Despite how personal my paintings are, I hope to share a love of color, form, and clean lines with my viewers.
